From the Godlike Production Forum where reader "Mad Max" comments:
"I seem to remember someone saying the UK is 3 days away from complete
break down into anarchy, due to the "just in time" nature of the supply
system in the UK. We had a brief taster back in 2000, when the fuel
refineries went on strike and things got very ugly very quickly in
certain areas due to the sudden shortage of fuel. Human nature being
what it is, you look after your own, i never saw anything myself, but
my brother went into a supermarket and saw two women fighting over the
last loaf of bread on the shelf. I heard tales of nurses and policemen
abusing their priority rating to fill up their relatives cars when the
rules were they were only supposed to fill their own cars up to get to
work, there was also a tale of a petrol station in Dewsbury putting up
a sign saying "asians only", a passing police car stopped and ordered
them to take the sign down, only to pass by again 10 minutes later to
see another sign up saying "taxi drivers only".
If folk are willing to wrestle and brawl with the police for the sake
of some cheap tat in a clothes shop, what's it going to be like if we
had to go through something like the 3 day week again?"
